GET INVOLVED
Your support is important to our work at Rice Alzheimer's Buddies. There are many ways you can contribute towards our causes, and every little bit that you commit goes a long way in helping us fulfill our mission. Learn more about how you can get involved and take advantage of the opportunity to do some good.
THE BUDDY PROGRAM
Want to contribute to our mission long-term? Our Buddies program has benefits for our volunteers and community members. We build meaningful emotional connections with dementia residents during weekly one-on-one visits to battle social isolation and disengagement. We focus on what is still present in our buddies and improving the life that they have despite limitations. Currently, our Buddies visit residents at Belmont Village Senior Living and The Village of Meyerland.
ART FOR ALZHEIMER'S
Looking for a short-term way to get involved? Creating art is an enriching and engaging activity, particularly so for Alzheimer’s patients! Our volunteers go out into the community once a month and use art as a medium to connect with patients and their caregivers. In the past, we have had a program at Sheltering Arms Senior Services, and now we serve community members at West University Community Center and Central Market.
THE LONGEST DAY
The Longest Day is the day with the most light — the summer solstice. On June 21, thousands of participants from across the world come together to fight the darkness of Alzheimer's through an activity of their choice. Together, they use their creativity and passion to raise funds and awareness for the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer’s Association. Learn more by visiting the Alzheimer's Association site.
WALK TO END ALZHEIMER'S
In 2018, the Rice Alzheimer’s Buddies organization had its first team for the Houston Walk to End Alzheimer's! When you participate in the walk, your fundraising dollars fuel research and studies on Alzheimer’s, and your participation in the event helps to change the level of Alzheimer’s awareness in your community – and while participants are encouraged to fundraise in order to contribute to the cause and raise awareness, your participation is still appreciated in its role of spreading awareness of Alzheimer’s in the community! Together, we can end Alzheimer’s disease!
